The great advantage of Rockwool is that it is a sterile media, which minimizes the risk of attack by various diseases, fungi and mould. In addition, it is easy to handle, can hold just enough water and is easy to plant in with ready-made holes.
If the mushroom is smaller than your basket, you can fill around it when the plant has come up with Perlite or mini Leca balls to prevent light from entering the water.
