When they have proper roots, repot and put in your container where they can grow. This way you can have many new plants going in the small stage as they grow slowly and take up little space and do not take up space in your larger containers for this growth period.
It is easy to pull apart and divide the mat into several parts. For example, if you have 12 growing spots for lettuce, plant 4 seeds a week. After 3 weeks it is time to move it into a basket and put it on your growing spot. Then you can harvest 3 heads of lettuce per week and always have new ones in the works. That way you always have new plants in the works.
